Road Trip To Stanthorpe

Last week Tony came home and said he had a week off, which is rare for him to say so after a rather busy week at the Lodge with guests we decided to take a break and head for Stanthorpe. It’s about a 4 hour drive from here, so early Monday morning we headed of for a 3 day break. The first thing that strikes you as you travel westward is how dry it is! The forecast was for temps below zero and snow. The snow is what settles and sinks into the earth which creates a moisture base for spring. You have to marvel at how nature takes care of the land even in drought, and to this we looked forward to trying great wine. On the first day we tried wines at Ballandine and Tobin before traveling to Happy Valley for our 2 night stay. We had a lovely cabin but surprisingly they didn’t serve breakfast. We ate at the restaurant that night and next morning headed of to Brinks Deli for breakfast, great food, warm and friendly. It’s interesting to note on Monday night it was zero and Tuesday night it was -4 so getting cold here in the south east is nothing compared to Stanthorpe. During the day the temp got all the way to 6 and on Wednesday it got to a balmy 12, amazing!!! On Tuesday we had lunch at the Tafe owned Bianca Ridge Estate.
