It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I am a dedicated Christmas tragic. For the last 15 years I have been collecting special ornaments and in 2007 teamed up with fellow Christmas tragic, Carla Cashion a goddess in all things especial sniffing out bargains! This year was no different and after Carla found some new places to haunt I was off to Melbourne to spend up as tragics do, then back to the Gold Coast for our regular Christmas meetings. We have been busy here trying to get our entrance gates finished and finally they are nearing completion. Building these walls has been a lot harder than it probably looks, or more to the point harder to get started! Once on the way they became just a long hard chore but Ron across the road came to our aid with some manual help so between us we finally got these cages filled. In the previous post you saw the cage before it was places on site and cemented in, one done the long task of filling the walls with stone began. Not so hard in the beginning except the wall is only 400 wide and you have to crouch down inside the cage to do it, why?, because the wall is 1200 high and you cant reach the bottom. The other point is you have to place large river stones against the cage and then backfill with oversize stone. The end result was worth it and now we only have to build the light boxes to house the sign but I have placed them on the wall temporarily to give the impression that they are complete. With the light on top they look quite smart, and to finish, the planting and stones around them looks great! ...
