We are back and open for business!

As some would know, Tony and I have been in India for a month and whilst we were away we had some work done to make our guests even happier. A few days ago some of our purchases arrived including silk rugs and a Hermes cover for our piano. A fantastic trip but good to be...

15 Minutes of Fame

Last night Stokers had its first 15 Minutes of Fame under the new committee and we think it was a great night out. With new ideas in mind, Rob had organized the hall to reflect the new lounge style that worked well and Anni and the Kitchenettes did a fantastic job with the Italian inspired fair and Prince themed deserts, so much so that I think they sold out of most things. Well done girls!!! There were 5 acts and all deserve great credit, from rob and his band to kick things off to the last band with the guy that makes his own guitars. There was also a fantastic blues and roots guy who blew us away. We were booked solid and the couple in the Queen room wanted to attend so we made it a 4some and had a great night. Stokers has a lot to offer, enjoy the...

It’s April already and although the temperature hasn’t changed, the leaves on the trees are beginning to change color! The big thing about April is that the ban on fires has lifted for the winter season and we can light out pile in the western field which has grown enormously over the summer months. A while back I reported the state of the property when we first bought it and the amount of work that would be involved in clearing it. I have also talked about the chicken coup and how great it will be to have chickens but the truth is we can’t move forward till we have finished clearing all the larger growth from the property. So today we once again tackled the fruit orchid and cut down another 7 or 8 trees but before we moved them to the pile at the western field we had to burn what was already there. Here are the photos of what was probably the best fire pile we have had to date considering that the weather was perfect today,...

Barn Door In the King Room

One of the final things we had to do internally to the King room was to add a door to the bathroom. During it’s construction there was much debate about a nib wall to block the view of the toilet but when we measured and checked it would compromise the disabled requirements for the bathroom so we had a dilemma. The room had architectural features that we loved but Tony was determined to have a door because being all open just didn’t work for him. Bi-folds and slatted doors all had limitations as the opening was so large and we would reduce the opening to install them. So I moved on to barn doors, it allows for disabled access and has a wow factor, the result, I think, is fantastic! The handles we bought off the shelf and sprayed them satin black, although not installed they also look great. Enjoy the...
